ISSUE 34
Is it really eight years since we first started out with Fireworks Magazine? That day in 2000 doesn’t seem so long ago, and in those eight years I like to think we have moved forward and improved, while all the time giving our readers true value for money. To go from a 60 page magazine with 8 pages of colour to a 96 page magazine with 20 pages of colour, and typically two free cover mounted CDs, is something that as editor and publisher I’m very proud of. And in that time we have also brought together what I consider the best and most knowledgeable team of writers in the melodic rock field. So as a massive fan of the genre, I can look on in pride in what we have all achieved to date. And now we go that little bit further by producing the first issue in full-colour throughout, a change which I’m sure will please all our readers as much as it does the team.

I’m sure the question will be asked as to why we have the reviews section as a separate supplement – the answer is simply that the new print company can only do a maximum of 64 pages. So it was either cut 30 pages from the magazine, or do the supplement. I’m sure everyone will be happy with our decision.

By the time you have this issue in your hands, the FM Firefest DVD will have finally been released, to stand alongside the Harem Scarem and Valentine DVDs. Once again, these are products of which we are justifiably proud of, and hope the fans will enjoy as much as us. Check out the advert in this issue.

The intention was also to shoot DVDs for many of the acts at this year’s Firefest. However, with both headline acts pulling out of the proposed deal, it became clear that it was no longer financially viable to continue with this plan, so with much regret we have had to cancel the video shoot. However, there should still be several live albums recorded on the day, and again, we would appreciate your support.

This year’s Firefest has been announced as the last, and as of now, that is still the overriding feeling. But as the old saying goes, never say never. But if that is how it turns out to be, let’s just make sure we go out with a bang! We hope to see many of you there for what promises to be the party of the year!

I must say, I’m feeling very positive about the scene of late. The number of quality releases I’ve heard this past month has been staggering! The likes of Ramos/Hugo, Shadowland, Driver, Jimi Jamison, Honeymoon Suite and Bob Catley have been in constant rotation in my CD player, and if 2009 can continue with this quality then I have every belief that we are in for a fantastic year for melodic rock. See you all there!
